Elks club teaches bowling to local youngsters
NORWICH – The pins are flying on Saturday mornings at the Norwich Elks Club. A group of the city’s elementary students are learning to bowl.
The Elks Club project is being administered by the City of Norwich Youth Bureau which also offers bowling for older students at Plaza Lanes.
“The after-school program at Plaza Lanes is for students in fourth grade and above,” said Jeff Cola of the Elks Club. “We opted to offer lessons to students in grades 1-3.”
The Elks Club facility has four alleys, and the kids are given pointers on bowling fundamentals by Elks volunteers. The tips range from safety to scoring. In addition to Cola, Greg Binelli, Rich Lee, Jim Thompson and Dorothy Decarr are Elks volunteers.
