Six nabbed in drug bust
NORWICH – Six people allegedly involved in a crack cocaine trafficking ring between Norwich and Syracuse were arrested last week. The bust followed several months of investigation the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and the Norwich City Police Department.
Police charged 27-year-old Richard Tyler, 20-year-old Shawndell Johnson, 33-year-old Semajdanyell Baker and 34-year-old Asia Owens, all of Syracuse, with third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a B class felony, and second degree criminally using drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor. The felony complaints allege the four had the intent to sell the drugs.
They were all arraigned in Town of Guilford Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 cash bail except for Tyler, who was remanded on $30,000 cash bail.
Two people from Norwich – 47-year-old Richard Brewer and 42-year-old Gwenda Knapp – were charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors. They were arraigned in Norwich Town Court and remanded to the county jail on $10,000 cash bail.
