SHERBURNE – Mohawk avenged a loss to Sherburne-Earlville last weekend, and ended the Marauders’ Center State Conference Division II title hopes.

Trailing the Marauders 29-27 midway through the third quarter, Mohawk used a 14-1 run to take an 11-point lead, one that allowed the visiting team to prevail.

“We were getting good shots, we just didn’t make ours, and Mohawk’s players made theirs,” said S-E coach Kevin Vibbard. “We struggled with their dribble penetration in the first half, but I felt we shored that up in the second half. I guess our defensive rotations were not as quick as they should have been. Ultimately, that stretch in the third quarter is what cost us the game.”

Cameron Yerton had 15 points for S-E (10-6), and Randy Briggs added 12. The Marauders host Waterville on Wednesday.
