Benefit for Jim Wright this weekend
SHERBURNE – The friends and family of Jim and Maureen Wright will be sponsoring an All Day Benefit for Jim on Saturday at the Sherburne American Legion, Jim suffered a stroke over a month ago and has no health insurance.
For over 30 years, Jim and Maureen Wright have been the owners of “The Gateway” who have been outfitting area Sports Teams, American Legions, and Rotary Groups with their customized apparel needs. With humble beginnings, they had a vision and brought that vision to life knowing the importance of family, values and independence. With a passion for this lifestyle and an entrepreneurial spirit, “The Gateway” was born. With a service first mentality, Jim and Maureen have a large selection of clothing, jackets, hats and apparel to choose from which they create that one of a kind look for their customers.
In these challenging economic times many small business owners such as the Wrights, have no health insurance coverage Jim was treated at Crouse Irving Hospital in Syracuse and has since moved to St. Camillus also in Syracuse where he is continuing his subacute rehabilitation. Jim is a lifelong resident of Earlville, graduating from Sherburne-Earlville and establishing his business in Hamilton. Cards of well wishes can be sent to The Gateway, 23 Lebanon St., Hamilton, NY 13346 and he welcomes visits from his friends.
The day of events starts at 11 a.m. with Shuffleboard “Pay to Play” (Regular, Tap & Draw, & Walk) $2 per game, 50/50 Raffle will be drawn hourly. Frank Goodrich of Port-A-Party DJ Service will play from 11 a.m. to 1p.m. At 1-3 p.m., enjoy the sounds of the “Kevin Pierce Band” at which time a Chinese Auction featuring goods donated by local businesses will be available for ticket purchases as well as a bake sale. Starting at 3 p.m. an auction of large ticket items donated by local businesses will be held. Organizers are asking area merchants for donations to be auctioned off at the benefit. Any contribution you can offer is greatly needed and appreciated.
A Pork Roast Dinner (tickets $10) will be held from 5-7 p.m. with the Chinese Auction drawings done at this time also. At 8 p.m. the $1,000 Reverse Raffle Drawing will be held. A Reverse Raffle draws all tickets purchased with the last ticket draw the winner. During the drawing of tickets, gifts and cash prizes of various values will be given away. Tickets being sold for $20 each, which includes the Pork Roast Dinner. Reverse Raffle tickets available at from Ken Jantzen (315-691-3300) at the Huff Brau Tavern or by contacting Sonny Jones (315-691-6300), Rick Hodge (607-674-9766). Only 200 tickets being sold, so get yours early.
The day will conclude at 9 p.m. featuring music from “Tommy Hoe & the Barncats.” Organizers invite you to come for a short visit, a couple of hours or all day long show your support to Jim and his family.
