Bulletin: Billions in Waste Uncovered in Federal Government.
Yawwwwwwnnnn.
The government’s own sleuths reported this week they have discovered massive waste in Washington. Such as 47 job training programs, 44 of which overlap. And – surprise! – Washington runs 80 programs for the “transportation disadvantaged.”
The detectives discovered 82 programs across 10 agencies for improving teacher quality. Have you noticed how well they have been working?
They found 56 separate programs to teach us to become more financially literate. By way of 20 different agencies.
They stumbled across a few data centers. In fact, 2100 of them. (They may have missed a few.) They estimated we could save up to $200 billion over ten years if we consolidated them.
They identified 80 economic development programs, shovels at the ready.
And many of the big agencies cannot account for what they do! That is right. They spend billions. Yet they cannot tell us what their work is. And ... most of the programs for job training? They spend the billions. They train the people to train the people. But, gollee, they forget to follow up. They have no idea whether their training helped a single worker.
Yawwwnnn.
That is my comment because none of this is new. Government, congressguys have known this stuff for years. And ignored it.
Some may rally around this flagpole this time. They know they can garner headlines and maybe credit. “I’m cracking down on government waste!”  Right.
A lot of these birds voted “Yea” on Obamacare. That will create something like 180 new bureaucracies. They are spewing out more new waste than old waste they might crack down on.
One of the Obamacare agencies should deal with psychiatric disorders along the Potomac. They should spend all their budget examining all elected officials and senior civil servants.
Many of this congress voted “Yea” on the stimulus package. They spent nearly $1 trillion of taxpayers’ money. And stimulated virtually nothing. And created few, if any jobs – despite their desperate PR blurbs. They boasted of shovel-ready projects, yet there were but a handful. Where we needed the shovels was scooping up manure at the end of their parade. When they trooped out of town.
Companies regularly trim. They re-organize. They merge departments. When somebody else can do the work more cheaply, they outsource.
Government never trims.
The President could do something about this atrocious waste. Congress could. They could simply cut all government programs by 5 percent. Or 10 percent. Or they could trim all government staff by 10 percent.
The rest of the country would never notice.
