Award winning Celtic band, RUNA appearing at 6 On The Square Sunday
OXFORD – Celtic sounds come to Oxford this Sunday afternoon, at 3 p.m., as 6 On The Square (6OTS) warmly welcomes the award winning RUNA! Their high energy music is Celtic elegance at its best. RUNA digests the music of yesterday, and reinvents the tunes into their distinctive, contemporary style that is honest and truly delightful.
This Philadelphia-based contemporary Celtic ensemble burst onto the music scene in 2008, although its members have played with many familiar bands such as, Solas, Riverdance, Clannad, Fiddlers’ Bid, Moya Brennan, Eileen Ivers, Hazel O’Conner, Full Frontal Folk, Keith & Kristyn Getty, and the Guy Mendilow Band.
RUNA consists of vocalist, Shannon Lambert-Ryan of Philadelphia, Dublin-born guitarist, Fionán de Barra, and Cheryl Prashker of Canada on percussion. Fionan de Barra’s guitar playing weaves magic when paired with guest fiddler Tomoko Omura and hand drummer Cheryl Prashker. It will be a fabulous show!
They are winners of several awards at the Montgomery Buck Music Awards, including Best Entertaining Band, Best Folk Artist, Best Female Vocalist, and Best Album – “Jealousy.”
Building on the traditional tunes from Ireland, Scotland, and the Shetland Isles, RUNA adds influences from jazz, world music, and more to create a unique, almost mystical quality to their playing. Add the enchanting voice of Shannon Lambert-Ryan, and RUNA brings many of the old songs into the 21st century. RUNA exemplifies the heart and soul of Celtic music - a superb early St. Patrick’s Day treat!
Purchase tickets on-line at the discounted price of $12 until the day of the show; $15 at the door. Ticket price for Students is always $2; please call to make a Student reservation! Doors open for this special afternoon performance at 2 p.m.
