It’s time for “Bowl for Kids’ Sake” 2011
NORWICH – The 24th annual Big Brothers Big Sisters “Bowl for Kids’ Sake” fundraising event will take place on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Plaza Lanes in Norwich. All proceeds from this event go directly to serve children enrolled in the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring programs throughout Chenango County.
Anyone interested in participating in “Bowl for Kids’ Sake” 2011 can collect a minimum of $25 in pledges then bowl a free game at Plaza Lanes. Pledge sheets are available at the Norwich YMCA, Sidney Federal Credit Union, Plaza Lanes and The Place. Supporters pledge by the game or by the pin. People can form teams up to five bowlers but smaller teams and single bowlers are also welcome. Bowlers are requested to call the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Chenango County office at 334-3878 and reserve a lane and bowling time today. Bowling times are hourly from noon to 4 p.m. Individuals who are unable to participate in the event can also help by dropping off or mailing (BBBS PO Box 971, Norwich, NY 13815) a donation at The Place or at Plaza Lanes on Saturday.
All prizes for the event are being donated by Save More Furniture store. The Grand Prize winner for most pledge dollars raised will receive one item up to $1,000 from Save More Furniture Store. The individual with the second highest amount of pledge dollars will win one item up to $700 and the Third Prize winner will receive one item up to $500. Also at this year’s event, supporters will have the opportunity purchase tickets to be entered into a basket raffle for baskets donated by local businesses and individuals.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Chenango County offers two separate support systems to children who are in need of a positive friendship through mentoring. In the community-based program, children are mentored by adult volunteers. The school-based program, high school student volunteers mentor younger students.
Volunteers develop a close relationship with their “little” and are able to watch him or her grow to become confident caring individuals.
Volunteers are always needed as mentors or collect some pledges and bowl a free game with us at Plaza Lanes on Saturday. For more information on becoming a mentor, questions can be directed to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Chenango County office at 334-3878 or bbbs@theplace-cncn.org.
