Tip line call leads to drug arrest
NORWICH – On Wednesday afternoon, Norwich City Police arrested Rhonda L. Hernandez, 23, of 115 Rexford St., and charged her with five counts of 7th degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor and one count of criminally using drug paraphernalia, also a class A misdemeanor.
The arrest was the result of calls to the department’s TIPS line (336-8477), and a brief investigation that culminated with a search warrant and arrest.
“We received calls alerting us to unusual activity at 115 Rexford St. We conducted surveillance and further investigations and were able to make this arrest,” said Chief Joseph Angelino.
The five different counts of possession is because of the different types of substances confiscated at the scene, the chief said.
“I haven’t seen exactly what was taken from the residence, but I was told quantities of cocaine, heroin and prescription drugs were found during the search,” said Angelino.
While officers were conducting the search, more than one neighbor approached officers and thanked them.
“This arrest took place in a trailer park with people living very close to their neighbors on both sides. I know it wasn’t pleasant for the neighbors. While we conducted surveillance, officers reported a steady flow of cars and foot traffic,” said the chief.
Officers were assisted in this investigation and arrest by the New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team. Police said more arrests are expected.
