DVD Patrol

Happy Birthday, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol is celebrating a special birthday for a Patroller who makes it possible for the Toddster to bring this little column to you every week. A great greeting to the editor of this little paper you hold in your hand and he’s the Jeffmeister (don’t call him chief or late for dinner). We’ve always appreciated what the guy has done for us and continues to do since we get to write about movies and spread the word of the Patrol to you. Now let’s get busy.

New on DVD

Tron: Legacy - It makes you think what you miss when it’s gone. Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) often thought a lot about his dad Kevin (Jeff Bridges). What Sam doesn’t know is his dad has a secret. Twenty years ago, Kevin had the misfortune of being digitally scanned into a computer by a master program and had to find a way out with the help of a security guardian called Tron (Bruce Boxleitner). Kevin found his way out and it led to him becoming a legend in the computer business. Kevin disappeared from his son’s life and now years later, Sam receives a message from Kevin that leads him to the old arcade that he spent time at when he was a kid. Suddenly, Sam finds himself zapped into the same digital world that Kevin found himself in. Will Sam find a way to survive and solve the mystery of his dad’s disappearance? Hedlund can be seen in another great DVD just coming out with Gwyneth Paltrow called “Country Strong” where a big time country star is trying to pick up the pieces of her career and become a success again. Also, a third “Tron” sequel is already in the works.

Little Fockers - Sometimes, it’s never easy trying to prove yourself to somebody who has a stubborn streak. Greg (Ben Stiller) has always had that problem with Jack (Robert Deniro). Ever since they met, it’s been one disaster right after another. In this latest sequel, Greg has to get a second job to support his family. Jack starts to look into what Greg is doing and let’s just say he’s less than thrilled. To prove that he has everything under control, he decides to have a birthday party for his kids to prove that there is nothing to worry about. Getting there won’t be so easy with all the craziness that always seems to follow Greg. Can he finally show everybody, especially Jack, that things will be OK? Deniro can currently be seen in “Limitless” with Bradley Cooper in theaters now. Also, see how all the comedy started with “Meet the Parents” and “Meet the Fockers” available on DVD now.

Also on DVD

Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker - Blu Ray Spotlight is back. Proving to a legend you have what it takes to take over might not be so easy. Terry Mcginnis found his life turned upside down when he met Bruce Wayne. What no one knew was that years earlier, Wayne was secretly the crimefighter known as “The Batman.” Bruce had long since retired and by sheer chance Terry met him when he was chased onto his property by a street gang. Bruce and Terry made short work of them. Bruce takes Terry under his wing and together they protect a Gotham City of the Future. Bruce will need Terry’s help now more than ever when his old enemy the Joker returns. Bruce doesn’t know how his old enemy can be alive but Terry has to find answers to this mystery and fast after the Joker tries to take Bruce down. Will Terry, as Batman, be able to find out what’s going on and protect his mentor? The complete series is now available on DVD in stores now.

Fair Game - Working in Intelligence can be tricky business. Based on a true story, Valerie Plame (Naomi Watts) had worked for the CIA trying to find a way to prove that Iraq was storing weapons that could be used against the Unites States and their allies. Her husband Joe Wilson (Sean Penn) was working to prove that Iraq had bought Uranium so they could make their own bombs and had written an article in the Newspaper about this very subject. However, before they could prove it, Valerie’s identity was put into the paper and she was exposed as an CIA operative. Now, it’s a race to find the weapons and to keep the people she works with safe. Also, her marriage and family are at risk as well. Can she and Joe prove that they have done nothing wrong before it’s too late? Penn can be seen in theaters starring with Brad Pitt in “The Tree of Life” coming to theaters in May.

Scream - Let’s fire one more Blu Ray out there. Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell) was just your average high school girl trying to make it in a crazy world. A year earlier, her Mother was found killed. History has a way of repeating itself and her town is rocked by a series of killings being committed by a strange hooded figure. The killer (or killers) has found themselves fixated on Sydney and her friends for some reason. Also, a lot of the killings are related to different methods found in Horror movies. Are Sydney and the gang going to be able to solve the mystery and will they stay alive long enough? “Scream 2” and “Scream 3” are also available on Blu Ray and Standard DVD in stores. Check April 15th on your calendar when “Scream 4” stabs its way into theaters.

That’s it for now! Some great movies on the way including some reviews of upcoming movies. Join us here next time. Also, a great teamup on the way. The Toddster will be here.
