B-G names Valedictorian, Salutatorian
BAINBRIDGE – Bainbridge-Guilford Central School has named its Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the Class of 2011.
Caitlin Alyssa Anderson has been announced as the Bainbridge-Guilford Class of 2011 Valedictorian. Caiti lives in Bainbridge and is the daughter of Jeffrey and Victoria Anderson. Throughout her educational experience at B-G, Caiti has embraced many diverse endeavors. Some of Caiti’s academic recognitions include awards in A.P. Calculus, A.P. Literature, Macroeconomics, Physics, Chemistry, and Spanish, while also receiving the Bausch & Lomb Science Award. She has been on the Principal’s honor list for four years.
Outside of the classroom, Caiti has been selected for many leadership activities. These leadership roles have granted Caiti the opportunity to become a confident young woman, and have taught her the importance being an accomplished and reliable role model. For the past two years, she has been on the executive board of Student Council, this year serving as President. This past year, she served as the District 8 representative on the NYSCLSA State Board, and was selected as a member of National Honor Society. During the summer of 2010 she participated in Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) and received the “Most Enthusiastic RYLAN” award.
An important aspect of Caiti’s high school experience has been her participation in Varsity Soccer, Indoor Track, and Softball. These experiences have enabled Caiti to be a team player and an honest, dedicated athlete both on and off the field.
In the fall of 2011, Caiti will continue to embrace a strong commitment to education, community, and service as she enters Elmira College. Although her major is still uncertain, she knows that she will carry on the lessons learned here at B-G and continue to work to make positive contributions in a field of study that works to improve the world we live in.
Lauren Lucille Porter, daughter of Lorraine Porter of Sidney, and Donald Porter of Greene, has been named the Salutatorian of Bainbridge-Guilford’s Class of 2011. Lauren was inducted into the National Honor Society as a junior and is an active member of the Student Council. She has served as the secretary of the Student Council for two consecutive years and has always participated to her highest potential. She has received awards in Spanish, AP History, Word Processing, and was a member of the Daisy Chain as a freshman. As a junior, Lauren received the Elmira College Key, an award given for academic excellence. This year she also received the Elmira College Salutatorian award. Along with these accomplishments she has been on Principal’s List, High Honor Roll, and has been a Scholar Athlete throughout high school.
After partaking in both dance and sports, Lauren decided to hang up her dancing shoes after 10 years to pursue athletics exclusively once she began high school. Ever since then she has been very passionate about sports. She participated in soccer, volleyball, track, softball, and badminton during her time at B-G. Not only has Lauren shined in the classroom but also in the sports arena. She has received several honors and awards for her outstanding athletics. As a participant on varsity soccer since 9th grade, she has served as a positive role model possessing determination, and sportsmanship while encouraging others. During her senior year Lauren was the stopper for her team and served as a team captain. She was honored as a Mang Tournament All-star, New York Pizzeria All-star, Most Dedicated Player, and MAC 2nd Team All-Star. During her years of Volleyball she received the honor of MAC 2nd Team All-star, Most Coachable, Most Persevering, and Most Improved Player. During her junior year she was the Section IV Girls Doubles Badminton Champion. She and her partner were undefeated in tournament play.
Along with her involvement in athletics, Lauren has enjoyed being a member of the band, orchestra, and chorus for all four years of high school. She plays the flute in band, along with the oboe in orchestra and was honored with the Most Improved in Orchestra award. She has been playing the flute for 9 years and began playing the oboe as a sophomore. Although the oboe is often a foe to the ears, Lauren has come to appreciate the beauty of the instrument. She has also participated in the marching band for 6 years and is looking forward to her final season in the spring.
Upon graduation, she will embrace a new community at Elmira College or SUNY Plattsburgh to continue along the path begun at B-G.
