DEPOSIT – Friday, Deposit rebounded from a 14-0 loss to Unadilla Valley earlier in the week rallying for two runs in the bottom of the seventh to deal Greene its second loss of the season.
Zack Decker drove in the tying run for Deposit, and winning pitcher Derek Lewis drove in Decker with the winning run.
Greene created all of its offense in the fourth and fifth innings. After Jack Phillips’ two-run double in the fifth, the Trojans had runners on second and third base with no outs. Lewis then retired the side in order, and completed the final two innings without allowing a Greene baserunner. For the game, Greene’s batters went down in order with the exception of the fourth and fifth frames.
“We hurt ourselves by not capitalizing in the fifth inning,” said Greene coach Steve Burghardt. “We didn’t do anything after scoring three runs. I thought we had a chance to really break it open.”
