Norwich 4, Owego 2

NORWICH – Monday, Norwich scored all four of its runs in the opening inning to bounce back from an opening-game loss last weekend.

The Tornado needed to weather an Owego rally in the sixth inning to hold on to the lead. With one Owego run already in, reliever Justin Lindenthaler came in with the bases loaded and just one out. Lindenthaler had a strikeout and induced a pop out to end the inning. The junior lefty followed that up with a scoreless seventh to earn the save and preserve the win for junior starter Ben Barnes.

Barnes had 10 strikeouts and allowed one earned run over five innings. NHS senior Nick McCullough finished 3-for-3 with a run, Colby Griffin had two hits and one RBI, and Grady Thompson was also 2-for-3 with an RBI. “Lindenthaler did a great job coming in and getting us out of a jam,” said Norwich coach John Martinson. “It was a good win for us.”

Norwich plays at Susquehanna Valley Wednesday.
