COOPERSTOWN – Sherburne-Earlville lost for the first time in three games dropping a Center State Conference division game at Cooperstown Thursday.
Ben Pierson singled to lead off the fourth, and he came in with the game’s first run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly. Two innings later, Greg Bordersen doubled, and he scored an insurance run on Matt Pink’s two-bagger. Pitchers Ryan Bennett and Sawyer Harvey contained the Marauders’ bats giving up three hits.
“Our pitching is doing great and the defense played well against tonight,” said S-E coach Brian Hicks. “I bet we hit 10 ground balls to the shortstop or second baseman, and they were all routine plays.”
Mike Wilson was the hard-luck loser for S-E giving up just the two earned runs on three hits. The Marauders host Westmoreland today.

DERUYTER – Otselic Valley committed nine errors over the first three innings, and the fielding follies led to 12 DeRuyter runs in Thursday’s road loss.
“I know our pitching needs work, and we’ll have those days where the other team is hitting well and we’re giving up some walks,” said OV coach Dave Loomis. “But the fielding looked pretty good this year up until today. We couldn’t do anything right.”
Kyle Newton had two hits and two RBI for DeRuyter, while also pitching a complete-game victory.
Charles Bishop drove in two runs for OV, and Trevor Marston along with Travis Sheldon went 2-for-4 at the plate.
The Vikings (2-1) play at Brookfield Tuesday.
