Darkness halts NHS-Sidney non-league game

Norwich 3, Sidney 3 (9 innings)
NORWICH – After nine innings of play, Norwich’s non-league home game against Sidney Monday afternoon was called due to darkness.
The Tornado (3-1-1), who rallied in the seventh inning last Saturday to beat Greene, needed a single run in the last inning to force a tie. Nick McCullough singled, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on Colby Griffin’s single. McCullough avoided the tag athome, but missed the plate. He dove back to home safely to knot the game. Norwich was able to load the bases in the inning with one out, but failed to cash in with the game-winner.
“It was a great game, and both teams played tremendous defense,” said Norwich coach John Martinson. “Our team was disappointed when the game was over. The kids have a lot of heart and didn’t stop fighting. I’m having a blast with this team.”
Sidney scored first plating three in the third. Nick Kozak had a two-run double, and he scored on Dylan Van Pelt’s single. Kozak had three hits to lead his team, and he pitched two-plus innings of scoreless relief before the game was called.
Norwich senior Lucas Follett had a triple and run scored in his 2-for-3 day. McCullough, Ben Barnes, and Griffin also had two hits.
Norwich plays at Chenango Valley today.
