Runyon selected to BCANY Top-50
NORWICH – Norwich senior Hannah Runyon picked up two more basketball honors, fitting postscripts to an exceptional three-year varsity basketball career for the Tornado.
Runyon was recently chosen to the “Best of BCANY” Top-50 Players as chosen by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York. The All-BCANY team is chosen in each section of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association as well as New York City private and public schools. From those lists of all-stars, the top players in each classification are submitted to the BCANY Board of Directors, who made the final selections. The only criterion for selection is that a high school team’s coach be a member of the BCANY.
“The most fitting thing I can say is that I am disappointed she won’t be with us next year,” said Norwich varsity basketball coach, Josh Bennett. “This is my second year of coaching, and I hope to coach many more. I will feel very lucky to have another player like Hannah. She is a tremendous player, and an even more tremendous person.”
Runyon was a three-time Evening Sun basketball all-star during her varsity playing career, and was named to the all-Section IV team by the BCANY. Runyon was also recently honored as a fourth team all-state selection in Class A.
Runyon is the second Norwich basketball player in as many years named to the BCANY Top-50 team. Following the 2009-2010 season, Richie Bonney was chosen to the boys’ Top-50 team.
