CV halts Norwich's unbeaten streak

FENTON – Chenango Valley capitalized on Norwich’s mistakes, and despite the Tornado’s 10-3 advantage in hits, came away with the STAC league victory.
Nick McCullough had two hits and two RBI for Norwich. Mackay Hotaling went 3-for-4 with a run, and Ben Barnes added a 2-for-4 day. McCullough scored in the seventh on Colby Griffin’s single making it a two-run game.
“We hit the ball well, we just hurt ourselves in the field,” said Norwich coach John Martinson. “We made too many mistakes tonight to beat a team like Chenango Valley.”
The loss ended Norwich’s six-game unbeaten streak.

SOUTH OTSELIC – Dylan Comfort tossed five strong innings for Otselic Valley Monday afternoon striking out 10 and walking just two as the Vikings blanked George Junior Republic.
Doug Day and Trevor Marston drove in three runs apiece for the Vikes, who scored 11 runs in their opening at-bat. Marston and Travis Sheldon finished with 3-for-4 days at the plate. “That was Dylan’s best outing of the season, and everything starts with pitching,” said OV coach Dave Loomis. “When you get a well-pitched game, everything else seems to fall into place.”
OV hosts Cincinnatus today.

SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville committed a season-high eight errors, and combined with Ilion’s 13 hits made for a long afternoon of baseball Monday.
Xavier Schafer had a 4-for-5 day with six RBI to lead the Tigers. Overall, six of Ilion’s 13 hits went for extra bases.
Carter Cole plated S-E’s only two runs hitting a two-run homer in the third inning.

BAINBRIDGE –Paul Parsons and Austin Bauerle limited Oxford to just two basehits leading B-G past the Blackhawks Monday.
In five innings, Parsons struck out nine and allowed just two hits. Bauerle tacked on two scoreless innings of relief.
Eric Oefelein hit an RBI triple in the first for the Bobcats. Danny Gormley and Corbin Palmer hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the second to add to the lead, and Billy Holden smacked an RBI double in the third.
Nick Wakefield drove in Ryan Moore with a single in the second for Oxford’s lone run.

RICHFIELD SPRINGS – Richfield Springs put together a seventh-inning rally to pull out a win over G-MU Monday.
Kyle Richunsky’s RBI single tied the game, and Keegan Wheelock hit a game-winning single. Four of Richfield Springs’ six hits came in the last inning.
“It was definitely a pitching battle, and their guy struck out 10,” said G-MU coach Rick Mohrein. “Our guy threw strikes in the last inning, they just hit the ball well.”
G-MU’s only run came in the third. Corin Todd reached base on an infield single, and he moved to third after an error and a stolen base. Todd came home on a passed ball.
“A one-run lead is precarious at best,” Mohrein said. “We knew their pitcher good, we just missed a few chances.”
The Raiders (3-2) host Schenevus Wednesday.

NEW BERLIN – Harpursville struck for three runs in the top of the fourth to edge by Unadilla Valley in Monday’s contest.
Eric Storrs’ RBI sacrifice fly completed Harpursville’s three-run inning. Earlier in the frame, Travis Snow tripled and scored on a balk.
UV took the early lead getting RBI hits from Zach Montgomery and Nate Shackelton in the opening inning. After the Hornets tied the game in the second, UV regained the advantage in the third. Brandon Miles hit a leadoff double, and scored on Brett Smith’s hit. Smith eventually scored on an error.
Miles gave up seven hits to take the hard-luck loss. “Brandon is throwing well and is doing enough to win games,” said UV coach Tom Locke. “We just can’t get the bats going.”
The Storm host Walton Tuesday.

OTEGO – Unatego scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to snap a 5-5 tie and defeat Unatego Monday.
After back-to-back intentional walks loaded the bases, a throwing error to home base allowed the go-ahead run to score for the Spartans. Jake Barnhart followed that play up with an insurance RBI.
Greene threatened with one out in the top of the seventh when Curtis Richards drew his fourth walk of the game, and Jeff Carlin stroked his second hit of the game. Winning pitcher Craig Shelton induced a pop out, and Trevor Parrish’s well-struck line drive to left-center was snagged by the Unatego leftfielder for the final out.
“The kids battled like crazy and came back from a 4-1 deficit to take the lead,” said Greene coach Steve Burghardt. “We just couldn’t hold the lead.”
