6OTS presents local photographer Kathleen Moser

OXFORD – 6 On The Square (6OTS) announces the opening of its third art exhibit of the 2011 season, Photography by Kathleen. The gallery of scenic photography will run through June 3, with a formal Opening Reception this Thursday, May 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. Local photographer Kathleen Moser will present a dozen of her own favorite framed photographs, books, and cards, of images she’s taken from in and around Oxford, as seen through her camera lens with an artistic eye for capturing beauty.
Kathleen (Smith) Moser is an Oxford Academy alumna who has deep, historic roots in Oxford. She is a descendant of Josiah Hackett who came to Oxford in 1798. So, although she made her way in other parts of the country as a photographer, Oxford drew her back. Moser returned and started the Clachan Coffee House. Now, coming full circle, Kathi has gone back to her first love…photography.
Kathleen was a photography student and follower of the late Monte Zucker. Like her mentor, she believes life is a continual creation and is constantly reinventing herself. Now she has reopened her studio, Photography by Kathleen.
Moser’s art is founded on conscious control of light in order to capture the essential truth of her subject. Whether it's a portrait or a landscape she photographs the world as she would like it to be and reveals the hidden beauty in her subject.
Aside from the traditional framed photos in the Moser exhibit, there will be photos on canvas, post cards and note cards, as well as a series of photo books that tell visual stories. Sidewalks I have Known (taken on a walk through Oxford’s historic East Side); Bark and Light (a study of texture and light) and From the Ground Up - all books which will be available for sale. A fourth book showcases the historic Ella Moore House in Norwich. This is a fine example of the essay style of photography Kathleen offers.
Come and meet the artist at the Opening Reception, Thursday from 5 - 7 p.m.; all are welcome. The exhibit can also be viewed at 6OTS one-hour before and during performances.
