McMule: That Americana Sound comes to Earlville

EARLVILLE – The Earlville Opera House welcomes a band that is getting a lot of airplay on the Americana radio stations! Find out more about that Americana sound on Saturday, May 7 at 8 p.m. with the steady groove of McMule in the Arts Café.
Have you been wondering exactly what Americana music is? We have been seeing more and more bands with this description! The world is made simpler these days with our communal knowledge stored online in Wikipedia; they describe ‘Americana’ music as merging folk, country, blues and rock & roll.  ‘Americana’ is also often called ‘Alt-country.’  The Americana Music Association describes this melting pot music:  “American roots music based on the traditions of country. While the musical model can be traced back to the Elvis Presley marriage of ‘hillbilly music’ and R&B that birthed rock ‘n roll, Americana as a radio format developed during the 1990s as a reaction to the highly polished sound that defined the mainstream music of that decade.”
David Lynch described McMule for CD Baby: “McMule is an acoustic string band based in New York’s Hudson Valley. Pristine vocal harmonies and old-time instruments create a unique sound that combines folk, bluegrass, country blues, swing and more … Great vocals, fine musicianship and an eclectic repertoire has resulted in a diverse yet loyal following.”
McMule’s latest album “Whiskeytalk” has received airplay on approximately 130 stations in over 30 states nationwide. In October 2010, the Americana Music Association reported that the CD was # 1 TOP MOST ADDED AMERICANA. The 5-piece band combines acoustic guitar, resonator guitar, bass guitar, mandolin, banjo, harmonica & vocals for a sound that is one part whiskey, two parts toil!  Folks familiar with Same Blood Folk may be curious to compare the rhythms of percussionist Brendan O’Connor to father, Doug O’Connor’s rhythms on bass guitar in McMule.
Tickets are $15, $13 members and $10 students. Call 315-691-3550 to reserve your seats.  Seating is limited in the Arts Cafe to 50, so call early to reserve a seat.
