GREENE – Bainbridge-Guilford picked up its sixth win of the season topping Greene in a back-and-forth contest Thursday.
Greene scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to close the B-G lead to 8-7. The Bobcats gained some needed insurance with three runs in the seventh. Danny Gormley hit a two-run double, and Corbin Palmer followed with an RBI single.
Gormley went 4-for-4 with two RBI, Paul Parsons had two hits including a two-run homer in the first, and Billy Holden had two hits and two RBI for B-G (6-2, 6-3).
Jeff Carlin was a perfect 4-for-4 to lead Greene, who failed to executed a squeeze play in the fifth that would have tied the game. “Greene came out stroking the ball, and the top of their order is pretty solid,” said B-G coach Tim Mattingly. “They have some young kids; their future looks bright.”
B-G hosts Sidney today.

WINDSOR – Norwich resumed its winning ways Thursday at Windsor plating nine runs over the final two innings to dispatch the Black Knights.
Brendan McInerney was a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs scored, Lucas Follett had three hits and drove in four runs, Nick McCullough also had three hits, while Mackay Hotaling drove in three runs and Colby Griffin knocked in two.
The Tornado bullpen pitched four scoreless innings to hold Windsor in check. Nate Winans pitched two scoreless innings of relief for his first varsity win, and Justin Lindenthaler finished with two scoreless frames.
“The bullpen did another great job for us, and the best statistic is that we made no errors for the first time this season,” said Norwich coach John Martinson. “It was important for us to play good defense so that we can gain some confidence.”
Norwich (7-2-1) plays at Owego Saturday.

OXFORD – Oxford received a well-pitched game from sophomore Andrew Golden, and won its third game of the season on Thursday.
Golden went the distance striking out eight and walking two. Golden pitched 6 2-3 scoreless innings until an untimely error led to Brandon Snyder’s homer that broke up the shutout.
“Andrew pitched exceptionally well and we fielded it well,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. “When we’re catching it and throwing it, we’re in games. That was the case tonight.”
Oxford scored three insurance runs in the third on just one hit. Golden drew a bases-loaded walk, Ryan Moore reached on an error to score the second run, and Eric Dilfer had an RBI groundout. Jeff Lawton had an RBI in the second inning, and Moore drove in Adam Pierson with a single in the third.
Oxford (3-5) hosts Afton today.

OXFORD – Oxford’s Jacquelyn Heggie was in complete control on the mound Thursday night. Heggie held the Bulldogs without a hit, and her teammates supplied ample run support in a five-inning mercy rule contest.
Heggie fanned 10 and did not walk a batter facing just 19 batters in the game. The junior hurler added two doubles and three RBI, and teammate Lacey Barry had two hits, one of those a triple.
“We came out strong and we want to make sure we stayed aggressive throughout the game with Afton coming up tomorrow,” said Oxford coach Heather Pizza.
The win improved Oxford’s record to 5-2 this season.

GREENE – Greene recorded its seventh shutout in nine games to remain unbeaten in Thursday’s five-inning win over Bainbridge-Guilford.
Trojans junior, Caitlin Willis, hit for the cycle with a single, double, triple, and home run. She finished 4-for-4 from the lead-off spot with four RBI. “I was thinking we might not have her this year because she had a serious knee injury in the fall,” said Greene coach Rick Smith of Willis. “She worked her tail off to get back to play softball, and she is just hitting the heck out of the ball.”
Taylor Ellis and Rebecca Hanrahan had 2-for-3 days. Hanrahan also smacked a home run. Jahna Driscoll finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
“I thought their pitchers threw well, we were just really patient, and it we seem to hit the ball really well the second and third time through the lineup,” Smith said.
Hanrahan picked up the win strikout out eight, walking none, and allowing two hits. The Trojans play at Unadilla Valley today and host their own four-team tournament on Saturday.

NORWICH – Norwich came up one victory shy of sharing the STAC Central Division title with Owego.
The Indians beat Norwich by a 4-3 count for the second time this season to eliminate the Tornado from division title contention.
Zan Stewart and Colin Stewart won at singles for the Tornado, and Sal Cole paired with Roman Cwynar for a decisive win at first doubles. Owego’s Robbie Black and Matt Kislowski rallied from a one-set deficit to beat Billy Whaley and Jeremy Moices at second doubles.
“We fought for it tonight, we just couldn’t get it,” said Norwich coach John Stewart. “Our second doubles team played really well, the other team just pulled it out. They beat us pretty decisively the first time (at second doubles), and this team it went to a super tiebreaker. What else can you ask?”
Norwich is at Johnson City on Friday.
