Norwich boys capture S-E Invitational; Oxford girls set four meet records

Track and Field

SHERBURNE – Norwich won its second boys team title in as many weeks led by outstanding track athlete Morgan Crawford, and Oxford’s girls set four meet records in a runner-up performance Friday night at the Sherburne-Earlville Invitational.
Crawford nailed down wins in the 100- and 200-meter dash races, and ran the anchor leg on the Tornado’s winning 400-meter relay. As a team, the Tornado won 10 out of 17 events to finish with 157 points, 10 better than Ilion of Section III. Jon Foulds again swept the hurdles winning the 110-meter event by a whopping two seconds, while nudging to a two-tenths-of-a-second win in the 400-meter race. Patrick Taylor also was a double winner for Norwich taking the long jump and triple jump.
The host Marauders placed third behind wins from Dan Palmiter in the 1,600 meters and Noah Huff in the 3,200 meters.
The Blackhawks’ ladies swept the outstanding athlete awards, and despite a small squad picked up 87 teams points to finish a solid second behind Ilion.
Outstanding track athlete, Katie Woodford, a two-time state champion for Oxford in the 400 meters, set a meet record in that event winning in a season-low 57.7 seconds. Woodford also set a meet record in the 100 meters (12.5), and teamed with sister Emily, Haley Witchella, and Jess Russo to set a new meet record in the 400-meter relay. Emily Woodford established a new standard in winning the 200-meter dash (26.0).
Witchella added top field performer honors to the Oxford accolades. The first-year track athlete won the high jump (5-feet), and took the shot put as well (33-9) winning the latter event by just half an inch.
Sopheia Eddy had S-E’s lone victory capturing the 3,000 meters in 11:50.2.
