Norwich budget hearing tonight
NORWICH – Residents of the Norwich City School District will have an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the school’s proposed 2011-12 budget at a hearing at 6 tonight in the high school cafeteria.
The proposed budget totals $37,090,193. While it represents no increase in spending over the current year’s budget, funding the spending plan will require an estimated 1.87 percent increase in the local property tax levy.
The Norwich City School Board will meet for a work session immediately following the budget hearing.
Residents will decide on the tentative spending plan in the budget vote and school board election on May 17. Polls will be open from noon to 9 p.m.
Polling locations have changed this year. City of Norwich residents, as well as district residents living in the towns of Norwich, North Norwich, New Berlin, Guilford and Oxford will now cast their ballots at St. Bartholomew’s Parish & Community Center, 73 East Main Street in Norwich.
District residents living in the towns of Plymouth and Smyrna will vote at the Plymouth Fire Station, State Hwy. 23 in Plymouth. Residents of Preston, Pharsalia and McDonough will vote at the Preston Fire Station.
Voting machines will be used at St. Bart’s; paper ballots will be used at the other two locations. For more information on the proposed 2011-12 budget or the vote, visit www.norwichcsd.org or contact the district office at 334-1600.
