Norwich 14, Owego 13 (nine innings)
NORWICH – Norwich won its first STAC league game in at least three years rallying for three runs in the bottom of the ninth to edge Owego Tuesday.
Owego scored two in the top of the ninth plating one run with a bases-loaded walk, and adding the second run on an error.
Norwich, who had not scored since the fifth inning, started the bottom of the ninth with an infield single by Alyssa MacIntosh. The Tornado then drew three straight walks, the last one by Cassie Sutton scored MacIntosh. Rhea French then reached on an error to score the tying run, and during the play, Shelby Condon advanced to third base. Owego threw to third in an effort to nab Condon, but the ball bounced away and Condon raced to the plate sliding safely for the winning run.
“This wasn’t one of those games where the other team didn’t show up, we had to earn this win,” said Norwich coach Dennis Eaton. “We fell behind and had to come back two times. This really was a collective effort, and that’s how you win games.”
MacIntosh and winning pitcher Jamie Berger each had two hits – with one double apiece – and drove in three runs. French and Megan McAvoy added three runs scored for NHS, who have won two of the last three, and the loss in those three games was 1-0. “We had a lot of good plays out there,” Eaton said. “Alyssa hustled down the line in the last inning to beat out a single. Shelby made some nice plays at third, and Logan Thompson made a heck of a play at first base. I really couldn’t be any prouder of this team and our entire coaching staff.”

Hanrahan allowed four Oxford hits striking out 12 and walking none. “Greene is an impressive team and their hitting is strong,” said Oxford coach Heather Pizza. “I first saw Hanrahan pitch on the junior varsity. She continues to get better, and you can tell she works hard not only in the season, but out of season.”
