Since 1954, the Monday Evening Musical Club has awarded scholarships to talented Chenango County high school seniors who major in music. This year there are three outstanding high school seniors who have been awarded the scholarship.
Featured will be Hailey Branham, daughter of David and Mary Branham, who will graduate in June from Oxford High School where she has excelled in art and music. Hailey has participated in Drama Club including starring roles in the annual high school musicals, NYSSMA music festival, and Area All-State Choirs. Also receiving a scholarship is Shannon Richards of Norwich. Shannon is the daughter of Joe and Ruth Richards and will graduate from Norwich High School in June. Shannon has excelled in both the band and choral department at the high school. For the last two years, she has had starring roles in the musicals including “Phantom of the Opera” and “Les Mis.” She auditioned successfully for Conference All-State in Rochester and has participated in NYSSMA throughout high school. A member of the National Honor Society, Shannon studies piano with Jan Burch and voice with Meena Conant. She will attend SUNY-Fredonia in the fall where she will pursue a degree in music.
The third scholarship this year is awarded to Ben Ticknor of Norwich. The son of Art and Susan Ticknor, Ben has been a member of the Norwich String Ensembles since 4th grade, first as a cellist and since 9th grade as a double bass player. He has participated in the NYSSMA solo festival, and the Broome All-County and Area All-State Orchestras. He is a member of the Delaware Youth String Ensemble in Oneonta where he is the Principal double bassist.
