Police say teen bicyclist at fault for collision with car Saturday

NORWICH – The Norwich Police Department said a teen on a bicycle rode into the path of a car Saturday afternoon.
The Norwich City Fire and Police Departments responded to the accident at 5:43 p.m. along Mechanic Street.
Police said the 13-year-old bicyclist was heading toward South Broad Street while riding on the sidewalk when he quickly rounded a building and collided with a vehicle attempting to leaving the Carmen’s Cafe parking lot. The bike collided with the front of the vehicle and the youth was transported to Chenango Memorial Hospital with minor injuries and later released.
Police said the cause of the accident was determined not to be the fault of the car’s operator.
“There was a blind corner and the front of the car pulled out so the operator could see the street and as he did this the bicycle was also passing the building, which has a short line of sight and is close to the curb line, when it was struck by the front of the vehicle,” said Angelino.
