Sauquoit Valley 17, Sherburne-Earlville 12
SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville threw a scare at Center State Conference Division II leader Sauquoit Valley Wednesday afternoon.
Nicole Burline had three doubles and went 4-for-5 for Sauquoit, who kept the runs coming in the contest to stay a step ahead of the Marauders. “We lost, but it was the best game we’ve played all season,” said S-E coach Michelle Parker. “We were relaxed at the plate and hitting the ball hard. It was fun to watch them, and not roll over after falling behind early.”
Three of S-E’s four errors came in the opening two innings, and led directly to five of SV’s eight runs.
Chelsea Beaudoin went 4-for-5 to lead S-E in hits, and Destinie Holmquist was 3-for-5 with four RBI. The Marauders finished the game with a season-high 16 basehits.
S-E hosts a doubleheader against Hamilton on Friday at Paddleford Park in Sherburne.

MADISON – Madison received a pair of complete-game victories from its pitchers to sweep a doubleheader from Otselic Valley Wednesday.
Two of Madison’s three runs in the opening game came in on errors as OV actually outhit the host club, 6-3. Trevor Marston and Adam Monroe had back-to-back triples to account for one of the runs, and Chuckie Bishop drove in the other run. “
In the second contest, Madison led 3-1 after one inning and cruised from there. “Both were decent games, and we hit it pretty well the first game,” said OV coach Dave Loomis, whose club finished the season 5-9. “As has been the story, we haven’t pushed the runs across.”
Travis Sheldon pitched four solid innings in the first game, and was the hard-luck loser. He struck out four, walked one, and gave up one earned run on three hits.
“In the second game, they hit the ball with a little more authority,” Loomis said. “We fielded it better, but they more solid basehits that led to their scoring.”
