Oxford names Top Five 2011 grads
OXFORD – Janet Laytham, High School Principal, has announced the five top honor students at Oxford Academy & Central High School. They are listed in ranked order from one to five with the honors earned and major activities:
Katherine Woodford, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. RC Woodford, Green Street, Oxford, New York is a member of the National Honor Society. She has been on the track team for the past four years and holds several school and league records. She is a recognized leader and was nominated as the National Association of Dance and Affiliated Arts (NADAA) Youth representative in 2006 and she was nominated for Girls State leadership program and the Rotary Youth Leadership Program (RYLA) both in 2010. She has worked and volunteered at her church, with Girl Scouts, and as a summer reading assistant in Oxford Academy’s primary school. Katie will be attending Cornell University in the fall.
Emily Woodford, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. RC Woodford, Green Street, Oxford, New York is a member of the National Honor Society. She has been on the track team for the past four years and holds several school and league records. She was nominated for several leadership awards including the National Association of Dance and Affiliated Arts (NADAA) Youth representative in 2006 and in 2010 she was nominated for the Girls State leadership program and the Rotary Youth Leadership Program (RYLA). Emily has worked and volunteered at her local church, with Girl Scouts, and as a summer reading assistant in Oxford Academy’s primary school. Emily will be attending Cornell University in the fall.
Charlene Beckwith, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Charles Beckwith, Main Street, Oxford, New York is the Treasurer of the National Honor Society and has been actively involved in student government, band and marching band, and color/winter guard. She played tennis throughout high school and is a member of S.A.D.D, F.F.A, and the yearbook staff. Her community activities outside of school include Girl Scouts, the Oxford Civic Theatre, and 4-H. Charlene will be attending State University of New York College at Oneonta in the fall.
Rebecca Allen, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Robert Allen, Phetteplace Road, Oxford, New York is the President of the National Honor Society and has also served as class Vice President. She has been actively involved in several groups throughout high school including: chorus, band, marching band, drama club, school musicals, prom committee and yearbook staff. She is also very active in the local community in her church, at the YMCA, the American Legion, the Lions Club, and the Oxford Youth Center. In addition in 2010, Becky was Oxford Academy’s Girls State leadership program representative. Becky is also an accomplished dancer and has been a dance student at the Amber Perkins School of the Arts for over 15 years. Becky will be attending Keuka College in the fall.
Kristen Audas, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Edward Audas, Grant Street, Oxford, New York is a member of the National Honor Society. She has been on the track team for the past four years and has been involved in several school groups including drama club, chorus, band, marching band and jazz band. Being active in the community she plays in her church band and she was a member of the Big Brother/Big Sister program. In 2010, she was nominated for the Girls State Leadership program. Kristen will be attending State University of New York at Albany in the fall.
