DVD Patrol

It’s finally here, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol is in full summer mode and some great movies are coming up for the Toddster to look at. A lot of good DVDs are coming out too including some films the Toddster has already reviewed. Hope you enjoyed the teamup last week picked by Tyler and another member of my team will be picking a new idea coming soon in a column right here. Time to see what we see.

New on DVD

Drive Angry - Family is a pretty strong bond to keep someone going. For Milton (Nicholas Cage), it’s all he has. Milton passed away some years ago and ended up in hell. Now, he’s found a way to break out of hell and he has a pretty good reason. His daughter was killed and now his granddaughter has been kidnapped by a cult. They’re planning to use her in a sacrifice. Milton will do whatever he has to to cult leader Jonah King (Billy Burke). Milton also has to deal with an “Accountant” (William Fichnter) sent from hell to take Milton back. He won’t rest until he’s made the people pay for hurting his family. Can Milton find justice and keep out of hell long enough to do what he has to? Cage is just finishing up the new “Ghost Rider” film and is set for release some time next year.

I am Number Four - It may never be easy trying to find out what you’re supposed to or how exactly the mission gets done. John Smith (Alex Pettyfer) has a crazy lifestyle where he’ll just start to get comfortable and then he’ll have to move again with his guardian Henri (Timothy Olyphant). John has a pretty good reason for what he does because he’s from another planet and the beings he’s being hunted by will do whatever it takes to get him. John tries not to make friends until he meets Sarah (Diana Egron). Now the hunters after John are starting to get close but he’s tired of running and has started to get control of his new powers. Aided by Number Six (Teresa Palmer), is John going to be able to make a stand and save the town he now calls home? From the creators of “Smallville,” they will be working on a new reboot of “Charlie’s Angels” starting on ABC in the Fall. Olyphant will be back on the FX series “Justified” for a third season coming out next year.

Also on DVD

Gnomeo and Juliet - Presenting old stories is something that will never get old. Cartoon Spotlight has a new one in “Gnomeo and Juliet.” Gnomeo (James McAvoy) and Juliet (Emily Blunt) both love each other but they both belong to different families of gnomes who are always fighting. They won’t let that stop them. Their love becomes complicated when Gnomeo stands up to Tybalt (Jason Statham) but there is an accident and Tybalt passes away. Taking it upon himself, he will do whatever he can to set things right and keep the love he has. Will Gnomeo be successful? Mcavoy can currently be seen in the new movie “X-Men: First Class” just out in theaters and on the Toddster’s list to see.

The Hit List - When things are going bad, you have to be careful what you wish for because you just might get it. Allan Campbell (Cole Hauser) thought he had everything going for him with a really good job and a good marriage. He’s about to find out he’s wrong when the promotion he was supposed to get is given to somebody else and things with his wife aren’t as good as he thought. Allan stops to have a drink and meets an unlikely character named Jonas (Cuba Gooding Jr). They get talking and Jonas claims he is a professional killer. Allan doesn’t believe him but Jonas asks him to write five names down on a piece of paper which becomes a hit list. The next day, one of the peoples’ names on the list turns up dead. Allan realizes the person he met really did what he said and has to find a way to stop him before he kills again. Can he really stop him? Hauser has some good DVDs available on stores now including “Paparazzi,” “Tigerland,” and “Pitch Black” starring Vin Diesel.

Covert Affairs - TV Spotlight is here with a great show from last summer. The Toddster was able to catch it and thought it was pretty good. In the pilot episode, Annie Walker (Piper Perabo) always worked hard and did really well with whatever she put her mind to. Working for the CIA is a place you need to be able to exactly that. Annie is taken out of training and given her first assignment to help out a fellow agent with a mission. Her new handler Auggie (Christopher Gorham) was blinded but it hasn’t stopped him. Can the two working together prove they have enough of the right stuff to get the mission done? Season 1 is now available with Season 2 beginning June 7 on the USA Network at 9.

A pretty good list for this time out. Some movies the Toddster will be checking out in the next few weeks include “Kung Fu Panda 2,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” and “Green Lantern.” The last one I’ve been waiting almost a year for. Don’t forget you can also check us out online if you don’t get the paper and make any comments you want to the Toddster. Catch you next week!
