Over 300 participate in bike rally to honor memory of fallen Marine
SHERBURNE – Between 300 and 400 motorcyclists – a number of them veterans of war – gathered in and around Gilligan’s Island on North Main Street Wednesday night to honor Corporal Joseph S. Tremblay and the thousands of other soldiers who have given their lives while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
On display at the event, held on the same day as Sherburne’s weekly Bike Night, was a custom-made, Marine Tribute Bike, built by Cross Roads Custom Rides. Tremblay’s father, Laurence, said the intricately detailed motorcycle was “built for one, dedicated to a few and honors all who have fought for our country.”
The American Legion Riders of Post 189 were joined by cycling magazine Fast Lane Biker and the Southern Tier-based ‘Nam Knights for the ride, which took-off from Howard Johnson in Norwich at around 3:30 p.m. A 12 foot by 18 foot American flag – donated by the Sherburne Wheelers – waved proudly in the summer heat above the bikers, suspended from a Norwich Fire Department fire ladder as they made their way north out of the city.
