DVD Patrol

What’s the good word, Patrollers? The DVD Patrol has some new ones with your names on them including a special review thrown in from the Toddster. Got to see something new but more on that later. It’s heating up but if there is a little rain involved, let’s get some new choices for ya. Here we go.

New on DVD

Just Go With It - Dating in this day and age is never easy. Everyone thinks they have some great way of picking someone up. Danny (Adam Sandler) thinks he has the perfect way of doing it. He wears a wedding ring and tells the ladies he dates that he’s stuck in a bad marriage and that seems to be a good way that works. Things change when he meets Palmer (Brooklyn Decker). Danny seems to be interested in her and decides to change it up and take a chance. His method may have worked too well when she catches him with the ring and wants to meet his ex-wife. The only problem is he’s not married. Danny recruits his friend Katherine (Jennifer Aniston) into his scheme to try and save his budding relationship. Katherine even gets her kids into the act. The longer he plays along with Katherine, Danny starts to have second thoughts. Will he go with Palmer or stick with Katherine? Sandler has a couple of upcoming projects including being heard in the new Kevin James comedy “Zookeeper” being released in July and a new comedy titled “Jack and Jill” coming to theaters later this year.

True Grit - Justice knows no age. Mattie Ross (Hattie Steinfield) saw her father get killed and now she needs help. She goes to find an old US Marshall named Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges) who she thinks can help. He’s now sure he wants to help this young girl but he knows he has to do something or she may do something foolish. With the help of the new Marshall on the scene Lebouef (Matt Damon), Cogburn may be on the right track to find the killer but now he has to take Mattie in tow because she want to make sure he keep his promise. Chasing Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin) won’t be easy. Can Cogburn and Labouef find Chaney? My sources tell me that Bridges may reprise the role of the “Dude” in a sequel of “The Big Lebowski” and Bridges may also return for the third sequel of “Tron.” Stay tuned for further details.

Green Lantern: Emerald Knights - All heroes find help somewhere along the way. Cartoon Spotlight has one of the Toddster’s favorite characters as Hal Jordan, the Earth’s Green Lantern, tells a new recruit named Arisia stories of the Green Lantern Corps and of some of their greatest warriors from their ranks. The Corps is getting ready to defend the Galaxy from a major enemy named Krona and Arisia is involved but being the new kid on the block she is not so sure she has what it takes. Hal knows how she feels. There are six interlocking stories of the Super Force of the Galaxy. Will Hal and Arisia with the might of the Corps be able to save the Universe? Mark June 17 down as Ryan Reynolds becomes Green Lantern in what is sure to be one of the summer’s biggest movies.

Now in Theaters

X-Men: First Class - Never judge a book by its cover because you never know what that person might bring to the table. Especially if you’re a mutant or someone with some type of mutation or special power. Set during the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis, Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lensherr (Michael Fassbender) have different views on the dawning age of Mutantkind. Charles with his views on helping the fellow man and Erik on getting revenge of those that wronged him. Erik is after Sebastian Shaw (Kevin Bacon), along with the beautiful but deadly Emma Frost (January Jones), are trying to get the United States and Russia to take each other out. Shaw has recruited other mutants to help him, so Charles and Erik have to do the same. Beginning with Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Banshee (Caleb Landry Jones), Havok (Lucas Till), Angel (Zoe Kravitz), and Beast (Nicholas Hault). There going to have to learn how to use their powers pretty quick if they hope to stop Shaw’s plans for putting the world in peril. Can this new team of young hopefuls find a way to overcome the prejudice of the world they have to save and survive this fight?

The Toddster’s Take - Those who know me know that I love comic books. When the people putting these movies get it right, it couldn’t make me happier. Sometimes I might sound like a broken record talking about my love for these movies but you grow up with something and it just stands the test of time. Mcavoy and Fassbender brought a real human quality to a couple of souls with one who wants to help and someone who has been tortured by his fellow man and wants nothing but revenge. This one was set during a time where Humanity was at a real crossroads of how we felt about one another and those who live elsewhere in this World. The young cast playing the mutants who help them were great and Original X-Men Director Bryan Singer helped write the script along with “Kick Ass” Director Matthew Vaughn with an all new vision of some old friends. Check it out and you won’t be disappointed.

That’s all we’ve got time for. When it comes to movies, I’ll tell you. Plans can get changed in a hurry. Some movies you can’t always get to but they’ll get covered when they come out on DVD in about six months or less. That’s about how long it takes depending on what decisions the studios make. Just a little answer to a question for one of my patrollers. The Toddster will be back next time.
