Jeff and Vida coming to 6OTS
OXFORD – Jeff and Vida put the blues in their bluegrass and they’re coming to 6 On The Square (6OTS) Saturday at 7:30 p.m. to rock the house. This award winning acoustic roots duo have been performing and songwriting nearly a decade, building a solid following among fans and critics alike across the United States and Europe with their funky, swingin’ sounds.
Jeff and Vida met in New York City in 1997 but soon left for New Orleans where they began writing and performing on a regular basis, quickly becoming a force on the New Orleans music scene. In 2001, they began touring full time and have since played more than 200 dates a year. They released four studio recordings, along with a live disc, to wide critical acclaim. Following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Jeff and Vida relocated to Nashville where they became part of the burgeoning alternative music scene.
The unique sound Jeff and Vida have created combines the raw intensity and high lonesomeness of bluegrass with a diverse palette of influences. They have delved into many different genres of music performing original songs spanning from Appalachian bluegrass to alternative country, with a bit of honky-tonk, rockabilly, and even a little rock and roll thrown in for good measure. Their music, however, is a little edgier, a little bluesier and a little rougher than your typical bluegrass. Vida’s powerful vocals and driving 1942 Gibson J-45 guitar with Jeff’s rock-n-roll approach to mandolin and guitar gets crowds’ feet stomping, and “is about as perfect a combination as you’re likely to find.”
“Jeff & Vida make music that is real and true. Theirs are the songs you long to hear late at night on the interstate, in poolhalls and smoky whiskey bars.” - New York Times Magazine
The combination of Jeff and Vida’s incisive, superb songwriting, high energy arrangements, and gritty vocals make them stand out from their contemporaries. Purchase tickets on-line at the discounted price of $12 (plus $2 on-line ticket surcharge) until the day of the show; $15 on the day of the show.
