Safe Summer Fun Day tomorrow
NORWICH – On Friday, the annual Safe Summer Fun Day will take place at Kurt Beyer Park from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The event is organized to promote family-friendly summer activities in the community.
“It’s to encourage safety in summer activities,” said Catherine Young, a prevention counselor for Chenango County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services.
Young explained that summer can sometimes become a time when people partake in activities that may involve drugs or alcohol. The aim of the event is to showcase activities that can be done safely, alcohol and drug-free, and with the whole family.
“It’s about getting people involved in activities that are wholesome, instead of getting involved in the alcohol and drug scene,” she said.
The event is organized by Chenango County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Service and The Place. It is sponsored by local businesses and organizations, and is free and open to the public.
There will be free food and beverages, including hot dogs, popcorn and Chobani yogurt.
Kids can enjoy playing in the bounce house, a demonstration by the Norwich Fire Department and a visit from Sparky the Fire Dog. The Sheriff’s Department will also be doing fingerprints.
There will be bicycle safety and sun safety demonstrations.
Rockstar DJ will provide entertainment.
