DVD Patrol
Here we go again, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol is in the swing of things this week and we have a few ones to pitch to you. Including a new Toddster’s Take on the latest “Green Lantern” which was just released last week. The summer has been pretty busy so far and it’s a bit hard to guess who is going to be the big winner. When there are so many out there, it’s too hard to predict a winner. I’ve been pretty busy too. We won’t forget the main reason why we’re here. Let’s go!

Unknown - You never know what will happen when you’re traveling. Just ask Martin Harris (Liam Neeson). Martin goes on a trip to Germany with his wife (January Jones) for a conference. While he leaves his wife at the hotel, Martin goes in search for a missing briefcase. During his search, he becomes involved in car accident that puts him in a coma. He wakes up to learn that no one knows who he is and all of his things have gone missing. He receives another surprise when he comes back to the Hotel and someone has taken his place and his own wife doesn’t even recognize him.The only one that might be able to help him is the Taxi driver that saved his life (Diane Kruger) and she has gone missing. Will Martin be able to find out what’s going on and get his life back? My sources tell me that Neeson has been filming some scenes for the next Batman movie “The Dark Knight Rises” where his character was supposed to have died. Stay tuned!
The Adjustment Bureau - There are some that say the things that happen in your lives are all a part of destiny. David Norris (Matt Damon) was a Congressman who had just lost and was working on his speech to meet a young dancer named Elise (Emily Blunt) who crashed a wedding. Sometimes it’s said there is love at first sight. David feels instantly drawn to her. She leaves and he misses his chance to find out who she is. Some time later, he sees Elise on a bus and gets her number. (no one said dating was easy). David gets to work and finds a group of men doing things to his staff. They are part of a group called “The Adjustment Bureau” who perform hidden operations throughout the world. David sees what he’s not supposed to and tells them he will never tell anything about them. The Bureau goes after David to stop his relationship with Elise. David is determined to spend his life with her and will do anything to be with her. Why is the Bureau trying to stop them from being together? Damon teams up with “Oceans 11” Director Steven Soderburgh for a new thriller called “Contagion” coming to theaters in October.
Burn Notice - Season 4 comes to DVD. Michael Weston (Jeffrey Donovan) was a Spy who was good at his job but then he was burned and now uses his skills to help people to make a living. With the help of Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar) and Sam Axe (Burce Campbell), he does the best he can to make a living and to find out who burned him and why. In the Season 4 Opener, the people who burned him let him out of jail to find material that can help them stop the terrorist who tried to kill the chairman. Micheal returns to help Sam and Fiona aid a man who has become the victim of a biker gang. Will they be able to help him? Season 1-4 are now available in stores now with Season 5 airing Thursdays on the USA Network at 10.

Green Lantern - Getting a new toy is something we all love to get. Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) was a pilot and was good at his job. Hal loved his Dad but he crashed when he was a kid and it’s something he’s never forgotten. His life gets changed forever when he meets Abin Sur. Abin Sur is a member of a Galactic Police Force called The Green Lantern Corps who maintain peace and justice throughout the Universe. The Alien is mortally wounded by an entity called Parallax and his ring chooses Hal to take over his Post. Hal is summoned to Oa where the Guardians of the Universe and the Corps are based. They are not so sure about Hal but the ring chose him for a reason. Hal doesn’t even know why he was chosen and decides this really isn’t for him. After getting back to Earth, Carol Ferris (Blake Lively) asks Hal what is going on and he’s not sure what to tell her. At a party, Hal runs into Hector Hammond (Peter Skarsgaard) who he finds out has been examining the body of Abin Sur and causes trouble. Hal goes into action as Green Lantern and starts to have second thoughts that he could really be a hero. Is Hal going to be able to get the hang of being a hero and defend the Earth?
The Toddster’s Take - Some think when stories are written for movies, they often try to do too much. In this case, I don’t think so. People will either like a character or not. I know I do. I really wasn’t sure about Reynolds in this one because I think of him more as a comedian. I was very surprised. He was very natural in it. The story had just enough to it and didn’t seem too bogged down. Lively and the rest of the cast worked very nicely helping the story along. With the amount of movies out this summer, we’ll have to wait as far as the box office results to see if there will be any sequels. I hope there are. Go see it!
Don’t worry, Patrollers! You don’t have to be a comic book geek or whatever the term is these days to enjoy heroes or even books coming out as movies. Just go and enjoy or grab the DVD. That’s what I usually do. Something I’m not crazy about right now is the delay that Netflix or Redbox has when you want to see the DVD that’s supposed to be coming out that week. I really don’t want to buy them all. Just want to see them. I think a lot of people have noticed this little thing going on the past few months. Depends on the studio. Time to head out. The Toddster will return.
