Parks project benefits from Camp Pharsalia donation
Eric Larsen and BID Executive Director Pegi LoPresti, representing the Friends of the Park organization, were presented a check for over $4,000 by Friends of Camp Pharsalia members Jane Clement and Linda Gregory last week, all that remains of the Camp Pharsalia Christmas Fund. The fund was established in the 1950s by Sheriff Joe Benenati, Mary Heath and others to provide a Christmas Dinner for inmates of the Camp Pharsalia Minimum Security Prison, in appreciation for their work on numerous community projects. Through the years, many community leaders have helped to plan and attended the annual party, most recently Jim Wilkinson, with the support of NBT Bank. The check will be used to help in the renovations currently taking place in East and West Parks, as a way to commemorate the work of the inmates at Camp Pharsalia.
