9-year old boy hit by truck in Sherburne
SHERBURNE – A nine-year-old boy was struck by a pick-up truck Tuesday, after he reportedly stepped out into a crosswalk without looking.
According to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, the child, whose identity has not been released, was crossing East Main Street from the south when he was struck by a 2005 Dodge Ram pick-up truck being driven by 68-year-old Frank Simonds of Sherburne.
Simonds, who was traveling eastbound at the time of the accident, was determined not to be at fault.
“The investigation determined the child was at fault and failed to look or stop before entering the street,” the Sheriff’s Office reported.
The child suffered a compound fracture of the leg and was airlifted by LifeNet to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse for treatment. Simonds was uninjured.
The Sherburne Fire Department and EMS squad were also at the scene.
