Sherburne Rotary kicks off summer concert series

SHERBURNE – The Sherburne Rotary Club kicked off its 22nd annual Music in the Park program Wednesday at Gaines Park.
The show was the first in a six-part concert series which will take place at 6 p.m. each Wednesday for the next five weeks. Admission is free; however, Rotarian Marsha Guzewich asks that everyone bring their own chairs.
“I love to have people come out. Some [are] talking, some are dancing ... it’s a community affair,” said Guzewich.
The Rotary Club will have refreshments for sale and there will be a 50/50 raffle each night. The benefits of the each raffle will go to support one of the food pantries in either Sherburne, Smyrna or Earlville.
The concerts this year cover quite a few genres. July 13 will host Babik, who Guzewich described as “fiery, gypsy jazz.” Their music is inspired by legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt.
Anyone planning on attending can also look forward to some classic country with Alderhollow Band on July 20 and the folk-influenced songs of the Nancy Walker Trio on July 27. The Smyrna Citizens Band will be returning on Aug. 3 and the concert season will come to a close on Aug. 11 with the Tweedlers.
“We try to bring in new music that would appeal to the crowd,” said Guzewich. “And we’re always open to suggestions.”
