DVD Patrol
Let’s salute, Patrollers! This week the DVD Patrol was busy with a bit of everything with it being the Fourth of July. I hope everyone got to honor the country in their own way. Even though the Toddster was doing that too and finishing up the vacation, we managed to find a couple of old favorites new on Blu Ray, a little TV, and a Toddster’s Take. Not bad for not so much coming out. Here you are!
New on DVD
The Cape - Heroes always have a unique way of getting started. This complete series finds Palm City Detective Vince Farraday (David Lyons) chasing a master criminal calling himself Chess. Chess has his hand in just about everything and he’s just managed to take down the new Police Chief. Vince starts to get close and closer than Chess would like. He comes up with a plan that makes Vince appear that he’s really Chess. During a police chase, Vince gets caught in a massive explosion and everyone thinks he has died. Vince is found by the Circus of Crime headed by Max Malini (Keith David). Vince knows he needs a way to get justice and a way to get back to his family. People in the Circus all have some incredible talents and Vince finds a cape made of some incredible properties that can be used as a weapon. Max offers to teach Vince to use it along with such things as escapism and hypnotism. With the help of Orwell (Summer Glau), Vince becomes known as The Cape. Will Vince be able to use his new talents to stop Chess? The complete series is available in stores now.
New on Blu-Ray
Be Cool - Everyone gets a new job sometime in their lives. Chile Palmer (John Travolta) used to work for the mob. He would always find ways to persuade people to do what his employers wanted. Chile tried his hand in movies but he’s decided to try out the Music business and meets a young lady named Linda Moon (Christina Milan). She’s an incredible singer but now she’s locked into a contract with a company headed by some weird characters named Raji (Vince Vaughn) and Nick Carr (Harvey Keitel). Also, Chile sees old friend Edie (Uma Thurman) and meets up with her to help save her record company. He has just the right combination but Raji and his friends in the Russian Mob might make things a bit tough. Can Chile change their minds? Another Blu Ray hitting shelves is “Overboard” starring Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.
The Mummy - Sometimes in your lives, people run into something that makes you ask a lot of questions. Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser) and his men went into the desert and met a creature named Imotep (Arnold Vosloo). Imotep was an ancient priest who was dedicated to his ancient love but was captured and entombed by those who don’t want a curse released. That won’t be so easy when a librarian named Evelyn (Rachel Weisz) is interested in finding the answers to the curse. Evelyn finds Rick and enlists his help to take her and their expedition back to where the curse was stopped. What will be waiting for them when they get there? A favorite of the Toddster’s coming to Blu Ray is “The Cutting Edge” featuring a great ice skating story with a hockey player and an ice skater. (My mom really liked this too.)
New in Theaters
Transformers: Dark of the Moon - It’s a gamble catching sequels. Not so much in this case. Optimus Prime and the Autobots have been helping the Government with secret missions all around the world. The Americans have also helped with the Decepticons who haven’t threatened anyone for awhile. Things are about to change for the Autobots and their old friend Sam Witwicky (Shia Labeouf). The Apollo mission to the moon was one of the greatest chapters in the history of man. It was also one of the most secret. The astronauts also found ancient Autobot technology that no one told them about. They found out about it and now they have to find out what exactly is still on the Moon. What they find they don’t expect. The last leader Sentinel Prime is found with an ancient device that can transport things across the Galaxy. The Autobots bring him back to Earth. Also, Sam also finds out that scientists are being killed that were involved in the Moon project. He knows that the Decepticons are involved but now the question is what are they planning and is Sentinel Prime in danger?
The Toddster’s Take - This movie was great from minute one. Director Michael Bay never does anything small and this one wasn’t a small movie by any means. Lebouef had a great subplot trying to find his own place in the World and one without working with the Autobots which doesn’t last long. Some new cast additions including Patrick Dempsey, Ken Jeong (from Hangover 2), and Labeouf’s new love interest Carly (played by the beautiful Rosie Huntington-Whitely) brought the movie a lot of great story moments. The special effects for this one really outdid the last two movies. It’s a bit long but that was my only complaint. See this movie!
Hope everyone enjoyed this one and we have a new teamup on the way. I hope everyone’s enjoying the Summer and my next pick will be “Captain America: The First Avenger” coming to theaters in a few weeks. There are a lot of great movies in theaters but we’ll be having more DVDs on those lazy days where distractions are needed. The Toddster will be back.
