“Behind the Mask” exhibit debuts tonight
NORWICH – The Norwich High School Musical Club will present “Behind the Mask: A Backstage Tour of Norwich High School’s Phantom of the Opera.” The exhibit will be open July 8 through Aug. 6 at the Chenango County Council of the Arts’ Mareia Brown and Raymond Loft Galleries. The exhibit will offer visitors a unique tour of the direction, scenery, costuming, make-up, props, lighting, sound, and effects that were used to bring the show to life. The tour will include various types of media from physical scenery, props, and costumes to digital photo prints and video excerpts from the performance and backstage.
There will be a free opening reception on from 5 to 7 tonight at the gallery. Guests will enjoy refreshments and entertainment featuring reenactments by students who performed in the live production of Phantom in April.
“We had an excellent audience turn-out for our musical back in April. Because the show was sold out all three nights and we received such great reviews, we wanted to provide the entire community with an opportunity to have a unique behind-the-scenes experience,” says Norwich High School Musical Director Mark Sands.
The exhibit is free. Normal exhibit hours are July 9 through Aug. 6, Monday- Friday, 9:30-4, Thursday, 4-6, and Saturday 1-3. Special hours for group and private tours can be arranged by calling the Chenango County Council of the Arts at 336-2787. The Chenango County Council of the Arts is located at 27 West Main St. in Norwich.
