Schools of the Past: Guilford District 3 Pine Grove or Cotton

First this week a most sincere apology to all the readers of this paper for the error in last week’s article. The article should have read Guilford not Greene! To err is only human and when writing the article, as this writer has been writing Greene articles for a rather lengthy time, the fingers on the keys could not stay away from Greene. Apology to Clifford Wade as he did not reside in Greene to my knowledge!

Returning to the districts of Guilford this week is a rather evasive one as there is literally scant information relevant to the history.

We are fortunate to have a photo of the school and we are saddened that this school building no longer exists.

In May of 1976, Clinton A. Clark documented the schools that were involved in the forming of the Mt. Upton Central School District. This district was formed in 1931 and invoiced the Union Free School, Guilford #5 (the Mills School), Guilford #7 (Godfrey’s Corners), Guilford #3 - Pine Grove and Guilford #2 (Shumway). These will be or have been the subject of articles.
