Hit and run driver identified
NORWICH – The Norwich City Police have identified the driver involved in a hit and run accident last week.
Jessica Richardson, 36, of Norwich, was charged Friday with leaving the scene of a property damage accident, a violation, in connection with the incident, which took place at approximately 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6.
According to police, Richardson was the driver of a blue Jeep Liberty which ran a stop sign at the intersection of Front and South Broad Streets and struck a tan 4-door car traveling south on South Broad. She allegedly fled the scene after the accident, drove West onto Eaton Ave. and ran a second stop sign at the intersection of Eaton and Elm. The vehicle was last seen headed south on Elm Street.
Images of the Jeep Liberty, captured by a surveillance camera at a nearby business, were posted to the Norwich City Police’s Facebook page.
According to Sgt. Pat Blenis, investigators received a tip after an article on the hit and run accident appeared in Monday’s edition of The Evening Sun. That tip led them to investigate Richardson’s vehicle. During the course of that investigation, it was discovered that damage to her Jeep Liberty was “consistent with the accident,” Blenis said.
Richardson was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Norwich City Court at a later date.
