Meade retires after 24 years with Sheriff’s Office
NORWICH – After 24 years of dedicated service, Deputy Dwight F. Meade has retired from the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division. Meade was honored Saturday during a picnic hosted by the Chenango County Law Enforcement Association.
“Deputy Dwight Meade is an extremely dedicated member of the Sheriff’s Office and he will be greatly missed,” said Sheriff Ernest R. Cutting, Jr.
According to Cutting, Meade began his law enforcement career on January 1, 1987. In November of that year, he completed the Correction Academy. The following August, he completed the Basic Police Academy. In May of 1999, he furthered his training at the New York State Sheriff’s Association’s Civil School.
In March of 2004, Meade became the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division’s first full-time civil deputy. In that role, his duties involved the serving of Family Court and Civil papers through-out Chenango County, as well as handling all property evictions and income executions. According to Cutting, Meade served a total of 8,624 Civil and Family Court papers during his time in the position.
Although Meade’s primary responsibility was the civil process, he still remained active on the Road Patrol handling priority complaints and assisting other Patrol Deputies. He was recognized numerous times throughout his career with Commendations and Letters of Appreciation from his supervisors for his efforts in cases such as: the 1988 arrest of a McDonough man for several burglaries; the 1990 arrest of two Oxford men for burglary to the Blueox facility and the Blue Stone Golf Course in the Village of Oxford; the 1992 arrest of five subjects for numerous burglaries in South Otselic; the 1994 arrest of a Guilford man for felony possession of stolen ATV; the 1995 arrest of 2 juveniles for several camp burglaries in Columbus; the 2000 arrest of a Utica man for arson and insurance fraud in North Norwich; and the 2002 arrest of two suspects for the theft of an ATV in Smithville. Meade was also recognized for his involvement in the Wlasiuk homicide investigation in 2002 in Guilford, and his role in the investigation into a fatal plane crash on State Hwy. 12 in the Town of Norwich in 2005.
In recognition of his distinguished law enforcement career, Meade was awarded the Former Sheriff Joseph J. Benenati Jr. Award in 2010.
