6 on the Square charity golf outing this weekend
OXFORD – On Sunday, 6 on the Square will host a charity golf outing at the Blue Stone Golf Course in Oxford.
The proceeds will go to the volunteer-based, community organization, which seeks to promote art and music in central New York.
“I think enriching people’s lives is something wonderful to do for your community,” said John Knapp, vice president of 6 on the Square. “I think, personally, that art, be it music, or painting, or some sort of craft, really enriches the soul.”
Registration starts at 6:30 a.m., the event begins with a shotgun start at 10.
Teams of four may register for $300, which includes green fees and a cart for a round. Individuals may register for $75.
“Don’t worry if you don’t have a team,” Knapp said. “We’ll hook you up with one and you’ll make new friends quick.”
There will be items to give away and raffle off, Knapp said, as well as prizes for first place, last place, “closest to hole” and furthest drive.
He added that all golf tournaments usually have that, but that 6 on the Square boasts something unique.
At their venue on 6 Lafayette Park – which inspired the organization’s name – visitors are treated to homemade goods when they attend an event.
“During registration we’ll have fresh coffee and homemade desserts,” Knapp said. “So people can get a taste of 6 on the Square.”
The organization celebrated its fourth anniversary last month. In the past they have organized music events, workshops, piano recitals for children and art exhibits for local artists in their downtown Oxford venue.
Once a year, they organize an art show for high school, middle school and elementary school children in the Oxford school district.
“Kids really enjoy it,” Knapp said. “Kids get out of school and get to see their work on display in the community.”
Knapp said they were lucky to get several great sponsors for the golf outing, and he looks forward to helping 6 on the Square grow.
“Anything I can do to help, I’ll do it,” Knapp said. “I think it’s a great organization.”
