Alcohol a factor in Sunday accident in McDonough
McDONOUGH – Police say alcohol was a factor in a weekend crash which sent an 83-year-old Greene man to the hospital with a head injury.
According to Lt. Richard Cobb of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, Charles Brown was transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital by helicopter Sunday, following a one car motor vehicle accident in the Town of McDonough.
The older man was the passenger in a 2002 Chevy SUV driven by his son, Darney P. Brown, 50, of Chenango Forks.
According to Cobb, at just after 3 p.m. on Sunday, Brown was headed North on Creek Road when he ran a stop sign at the road’s intersection with State Hwy. 220. His SUV crossed 220 and went off the north side of the state roadway behind the McDonough Town Barn.
The McDonough Fire Department, Norwich Ambulance, Pharsalia Fire Department and LifeNet responded, along with the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Cobb, Brown was taken to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office where he refused a breathalyzer test. Following his refusal, he was arraigned in McDonough Town Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $2,500 cash bail.
Brown, who holds a class B license, is charged with driving while intoxicated, operating while registration suspended or revoked and failure to stop at a stop sign. He is scheduled to reappear in McDonough court at a later date.
