New Berlin dedicates Chobani Champions little league field Friday
NEW BERLIN – Agro Farma will dedicate its new Chobani Champions Field during an opening celebration beginning at 6 p.m. Friday.
The local Little League field boasts a variety of amenities, including a concession stand, an announcer’s booth and bleachers. The opening celebration night will give members of the community an opportunity to see the new field and enjoy special performances by the Donna Frech dance company and local singer songwriter Katelyn Jackson as well as fireworks and mini Little League games.
According to New Berlin Mayor Terry Potter, due to the amount of people expected to attend, Preferred Mutual in downtown New Berlin has volunteered its parking lot and the Unadilla Valley school district will provide buses to shuttle attendees to and from the event, which takes place on 7 School St. in the village.
The new field replaces the old Little League field which, according to Potter, had fallen into a severe state of disrepair. “Between the weeds and rocky gravel, our little league field was in rough shape,” he said.
Funding for the field was donated by Shepherd’s Gift, a charitable foundation founded by Hamdi Ulukaya, CEO and founder of Agro Farma. According to Cassie Stanton of Agro Farma, upwards of $300,000 was donated to the construction. Local companies that worked on the construction also donated all of their time and in some cases materials to the project. Burrell’s Excavating, Taggert Electric, Eastman Associates, Butler Fence and Millennia Entertainment all contributed to the process.
