Greene Arts and Crafts Show this weekend

GREENE – This Saturday is the 35th Annual Arts and Crafts Show in Greene, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“Because it’s the 35th one, we’re very well known among the vendor circuit,” said Grace Benkovitz, executive director of the Greater Greene Chamber of Commerce.
This year around 150 vendors will participate in the event, which usually draws a crowd of “many thousand,” Benkovitz said.
“It draws many thousands of people in one day to Main Street,” she said. “It makes people aware of Greene.”
The show features local vendors, as well other parts of the state and Pennsylvania. Items for sale include handmade jewelry, pottery, blown glass and local photography.
The show first began as a fundraiser for the Chamber of Commerce, explained Ellen Adams, a member of the Chamber.
Though proceeds from the event still go to fund the Chamber, they are also used to support other organizations and groups in the community.
The current economic climate can diminish some of the turnout, Adams said.
“With the price of gas – that really slowed people down.”
The Internet, she added, can also affect turnout, “especially with craft shows.”
Despite all this, Adams says the show does well.
“It has been an event that has grown every year.”
