‘American Ballad’ highlighted at Sherburne Heritage Day

SHERBURNE – “The History of the American Ballad” will be told through a musical program presented at Sherburne’s Heritage Day, Saturday, July 30 at 10 a.m. at the Historic Park. Vocalist Jenni Larchar will be joined by Red Raville on trumpet, Carl Pickett on bass and Tom Murphy at the keyboard. This group enjoys performing regularly for the residents at the NYS Veteran’s Home. With a broad repertoire spanning nearly 100 years, and with a variety of styles, they present a program that has something everyone can relate to.
“We are playing songs that are familiar to many people That’s what makes them Great American Ballads,” says Larchar, who is also a member of the Historic Park Society.
Featured numbers include “My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music, “When You Wish Upon a Star” from Disney’s Pinnochio and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz. These songs have become synonymous with the familiar names of Julie Andrews, Walt Disney and Judy Garland. Other recognizable songs are “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head.” A brief history will be shared before each song. There are interesting facts to be learned about these (and more) familiar tunes that have become part of our American heritage.
The Historic Park is located in Sherburne across from the bus garage between Rte. 12 and School St. Enjoy all of the Heritage Day activities from 10-3 this Saturday.
