Dog helps nab Oxford burglars
OXFORD – An Oxford police officer stopped to help a man being chased by a dog, and discovered he was a burglar fleeing the scene of a crime.
According to Police Chief Richard Nolan, Officer Sam Sears was on patrol at approximately 3:15 p.m. last Monday, when he noticed a man running with a dog close on his heels. Sears stopped to assist the man, who was later identified as 19-year-old Keannu Spencer of Smyrna.
As the two talked, another gentleman approached and told the officer that Spencer had kicked in the door of his South Washington Ave. apartment moments before. The dog had reportedly been inside the residence and had taken off after the young man, who fled the scene.
The resident also provided a description of a second man who was allegedly involved with the burglary. That description led police to 22- year-old Gerald D. Peet of Syracuse, who was found in the vicinity of Greene Street.
