Couple arrested for stealing pick up truck

SHERBURNE – A trip to Walmart proved to be the downfall of two alleged car thieves arrested Sunday after driving a stolen pick-up to the Norwich superstore.

Michael John Hicks, 22, of Sherburne, and Christina Marie Andersen, 24, were taken into custody at 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the store’s parking lot. The couple were in a 2007 GMC pick-up truck stolen sometime over the weekend from behind a business in the Town of Sherburne.

According to Lt. Richard Cobb of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were able to track the couple to Walmart thanks to a tip received by the Sherburne Police Department and passed on to the sheriff’s office.

Both Hicks and Andersen were in the vehicle when it was located. They were arraigned in Town of North Norwich Court and charged with fourth degree grand larceny, a class E felony, and fifth degree conspiracy, a class A misdemeanor, in connection with the crime.
