Agro Farma growth calls for expanded NYSEG line
SOUTH EDMESTON – NYSEG is planning to build a new electricity transmission line in order to meet the power needs of Chenango County and Agro Farma in South Edmeston.
To best address these needs, NYSEG will build a new 46-kilovolt (kv) transmission line from NYSEG’s County Line Substation in the Town of Sherburne through the Towns of Sherburne and Columbus to a new substation to be built near Agro Farma. The first 7-plus miles of the new transmission line is expected to be built parallel to an existing NYSEG transmission line using some existing rights of way. The remaining 2-plus miles of the new line will require all new rights of way. Property owners will be contacted to discuss any new easements that are needed.
NYSEG has started preliminary engineering and design work for the project with the expectation of beginning construction next spring. Plans call for the new facilities to be in service in the fall of 2012.
This project falls below the 69-kv threshold that requires approval from the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) under Article VII of Public Service Law. Therefore, the project will be subject to any applicable local land development, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers approvals.
The project will be subject to a coordinated review under the New York State Environmental Quality Review Act. The Chenango County Industrial Development Agency is expected to serve as the SEQRA lead agency. Other involved agencies are expected to include, but may not be limited to, the Town of Sherburne, Town of Columbus, DEC and PSC.
