At the Fair: Exciting changes in store for Tractors of Yesteryear
NORWICH – Join the Tractors of Yestyear club next Saturday at the Chenango County Fair, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a tractor pull.
Grandstand admission is free and the Chenango County Dairy Princess and her Court will be giving away free milk courtesy of local businesses.
“The free entry is a great thing,” said Mark Tanis, one of the event organizers. “Now no one has an excuse not to come. Everyone should know that.”
Registration to pull is $5, and membership for the club is $20, but anyone is welcome to come exhibit, Tanis said. Tractors, bulldozers and all manner of equipment is welcome.
All proceeds go to the club’s tractor museum in Cortland. The first 30 people who register to pull will receive a free T-shirt, courtesy of Tractor Supply Company stores in Norwich and Cortland.
The event has new rules this year, Tanis said. No more than 9500 lb shipping weight, no more than 100 Delta or PTO stock horsepower and no turbo chargers allowed.
In the past, participating tractors had to be from 1959 or earlier. This year, tractors from 1986 or earlier will be allowed to pull.
“Not everyone has antique tractors,” explained Tanis.
Tanis added that there are no prizes because the pulls are not meant to be officially competitive.
“It’s going to be a laid-back, fun thing,” he said.
The first tractor pull organized by the club was in 1993. Tanis said the club’s members have continued to organize it every year.
“This year will be a great tractor pull if it goes off well,” he said.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.
