Country rocker Andy Griggs hits the Fair stage tonight
NORWICH – Since its inception in 2008, Millennia Entertainment’s Guitars Under the Stars has featured some of country music’s top talent, including Sarah Johns, Mark Wills, Jeff Bates and Josh Gracin. Now in its fourth year, the annual music showcase will bring country rocker Andy Griggs to the Chenango County Fair, at 8 tonight in the grandstand.
The grandstand will open at 6 for tonight’s performance, which will also feature opening acts Kaitlyn Jackson and The Beadle Brothers. The brothers, Matt and Bruce Jr., have continued to perform in support of their debut CD, “To the Moon and Back,” since its 2010 release. With its tight arrangements and unique blend of country and rock-n-roll originals, the band is poised to take it to the next level, according to Matt Beadle.
“I’ve performed every year for Guitars Under the Stars, so I’m familiar with the gig,” said the vocalist, keyboardist and songwriter. “It’s exciting for us to be able to open for great entertainers such as Andy Griggs and, like him, we love to entertain.”
Beadle announced that the band is currently working on material for a second album of original material and wished to thank those that made the first disc such a success.
“We really appreciate all the support we get from our local fans, friends and family,” he added. “In all truth, we couldn’t do this without them.”
Vocalist Kaitlyn Jackson – who will open the show at around 6:30 – will also be performing cuts from her debut album, “Crush,” recorded in and around Nashville last year. The young singer got some help from some serious music talent while recording the CD, including Dolly Parton producer and Reba McEntire guitarist Kent Wells, and had an opportunity to take some vocal lessons with Carrie Underwood’s vocal coach, Buzzy Orange.
Last year’s Guitars Under the Stars drew approximately 1,800 people, according to Millennia Entertainment owner Terry Potter, a number he said he’s hoping to see increase this year. His goal with the music showcase – from day one – has been to bring the absolute best talent he can possibly lay his hands on to the fairgrounds year after year.
Griggs, he added, is no exception.
“He has over a dozen top ten singles to his name,” said Potter. “In any genre of music, if you have one hit, that’s great. If you have ten, that’s fantastic.”
Griggs burst onto the country music scene in 1999 with his debut RCA Nashville release “You Won’t Ever Be Lonely.” The album’s title track is just one of the singer’s top ten singles, which also include “Forever Gold,” “She’s More,” “I’ll Go Crazy,” “Tonight I Wanna Be Your Man,” “Practice Life” (with Martina McBride), “She Thinks She Needs Me,” “Shine on Me” (with Waylon Jennings) and “One Mississippi.”
Griggs latest single, “Can I Get an Amen,” is currently available on iTunes and other online outlets. His forthcoming full-length CD – untitled as of yet – will be released later this year.
Tickets for tonight’s show are $10 if purchased prior to 6 p.m. and are available at Hayes Office Supplies and the Chenango County Fair main gate office. From 6 p.m. on, tickets will be $20.
